DIY Inspiration in your Closet

Do you ever feel motivated and ambitious about tackling a DIY project, but when it comes to actually creating something, you’re not sure where to start?  I know that feeling well!  I remember getting these surges of creative juice as a child.  I’d excitedly haul out my paints, feathers, crayons, etc, and make a big mess.  Then my little brother would announce that he wasn’t in the mood to join me.  I’d look at the mess and discover that I had no idea what I actually wanted to make!  So Mom cleaned up the mess and life went on as usual… Sound familiar?

Now here’s the grown-up version: I browse the internet, oohing and aahing over other people’s creative projects.  Then I pull out my paints and I blank out.  What can I actually change without making it look cheesy?

Recently, I discovered the best source of DIY inspiration EVER!!!  Are you ready for it…?  THE CLOSET!!!  You know which one I mean… the one that the door barely closes, and you don’t even want to know who all lives in there!  OK, maybe I’m exaggerating slightly.  But seriously, we have this closet upstairs that’s full of outdated home decor that’s just begging to be given a DIY upgrade!

I was sooooo excited when I saw all the goodies in there!  An oldish shelf that could be given a new look with some sandpaper, paint and a bit of elbow grease.  Also a ramekin that’s perfect for blog photos, some old swags with red berries, a really outdated wreath, and lots more.  Now I have the foundation laid for my projects!  I know exactly what I have to work with and fix up, but I still get the fun of experimenting with different looks.

So stay tuned to find out what I’ll do with my new-found JUNK! 😀  In the sidebar, you can subscribe to Kelsey’s Kreative Korner to get an email notification about each new post- (but don’t worry, for as rarely as I post, this WILL NOT fill your inbox!)

So go ahead- dig through that old junk and see what you discover!  I’m sure you’ll be amazed at the treasures you find, but if not, just throw away the junk and enjoy your new empty corner!

For another project idea made from useless junk, check out this tug toy for pets and let me know what you think! 🙂
