Oatmeal Berry Breakfast Bowl

Do you love a good, nutritious and delicious breakfast?  Or does your stomach churn at the very idea of eating food first thing in the morning?  Either way, I’ve got just the thing for you!  This oatmeal berry breakfast will be just what you’re looking for!

You see, I used to hate breakfast.  I’d choke down a few bites of soggy cereal, because Mom wouldn’t let me go to school on a empty stomach.  But did I enjoy breakfast?  Absolutely not!

Then, for awhile, I discovered that I could enjoy breakfast!  On Sunday mornings I got to sleep a little later, and our family would always share deliciously sticky, sweet, frosted cinnamon buns from the home bakery nearby.  Yum!  Right?  Well, sure, until those sugar-coated dough lumps hit my poor stomach!  Every Sunday, I’d get a wave of nausea as my digestive system struggled to deal with the overload of unhealthy carbs.  I’d pop a few Tums, and off we’d go to church.

Eventually, we all got sick of those buns, and we just quit buying them.  (I think maybe the last time we had them in the house was when we hosted company for the night, last summer!)  I started eating Raisin Bran cereal for breakfast, and that became my morning staple for years!  I felt much better on it than I did on sugary cereals or buns.

I still like Raisin Bran, but the last time I went to buy some, they were out of the giant boxes.  I got a giant box of a cheaper brand instead, but it just isn’t as good!  Anyway, I still don’t think that processed cereal can possibly be as healthy as home-cooked food.  Nothing beats knowing exactly what’s going into your food, and where it came from!  So lately, I’ve been getting sick of the cheaper raisin bran cereal, and I decided to invent my own nutritious oatmeal breakfast.  It’s mildly sweet, but it doesn’t make me feel nauseous after eating it!  (No surprise there, since the only sugar in it is found naturally in the berries!)

This cereal is DELICIOUS, I mean, I could eat it every morning!  (In fact, I have, ever since I invented it!)  It’s also SUPER HEALTHY!!!!  YAY!!!!! 🙂 😀 The complex carbohydrates in the oatmeal provide energy to help you start your day.  The berries contain vitamins and antioxidants, and the Greek yogurt contains calcium, protein, and healthy fats to keep you feeling full!  So… enjoy this delicious breakfast without any guilt! 🙂

Servings:
Instructions
  1. 1. Stir the oats and cinnamon together in a single-serving sized, microwave-safe bowl.
  2. 2. Add your choice of milk. (eg. Almond milk, skim milk, 2% milk, sheep's milk, etc.) Stir in the vanilla and liquid stevia (Optional).
  3. 3. Place a frozen yogurt cube in the middle of the bowl. (Omit this step if you have fresh Greek yogurt to use.)
  4. 4. Microwave your oats with the yogurt cube for 1 minute and 20-40 seconds, depending on the power of your microwave.
  5. 5. ***If using a yogurt cube: Stir the your oats to fully incorporate the thawed yogurt cube with the oats.
  6. 6. ***If using fresh Greek yogurt instead of the frozen cube: Top hot oats with Greek yogurt.
  7. 7. Top with 1/2 cup of your favourite frozen berries. The berries will cool the hot cereal and the temperature of both the berries and the oats should be just about right! 🙂
